“Inden” is a traditional Japanese craft in which lacquer is applied to create intricate patterns and textures. Long valued for both its beauty and practicality, Inden techniques have historically appeared on items like wallets, bags and pouches - everyday objects elevated through meticulous craftsmanship. The lacquer itself changes beautifully with light, revealing depth and contrast.
Founded in 1950, the Kyō Inden workshop specializes in lacquer decoration known for its rich color and high-gloss finish. While rooted in traditional techniques, the artisans continue to expand the craft into new materials and forms, applying Inden methods not only to leather, but also to Japanese paper, canvas, wood and acrylic.
The balance of heritage and innovation is shared by Tivoli Audio.
